FOREWORD By Michelle Powell - Managing Director, WaiveStar Group. 2005 Winner of the Victorian Government Growth Business Award; 2004 Finalist Telstra Business Woman of the Year. I started my business in 2000 with one staff member and with an annual growth of 90% per annum over a two year period. By 2002, I employed eight (8) staff and was, at that stage, still solely responsible for managing all aspects of the business. Armed with a forward three (3) year Business Plan in order to continue the existing growth pattern, I recognised a need for assistance in areas that were not my speciality. My team had been stable for a while and I had some simple, basic employment documents in place. At this point, I was concerned that I had neither the time nor the expertise to ensure that new employees at WaiveStar Group would commence their employment with a thorough understanding of our processes and procedures. I also wanted to ensure that they were provided with the correct requisite documentation (to protect my business). I realised the WaiveStar Group lacked a mechanism to better define performance expectations and to better facilitate performance discussions. In 2006, WaiveStar Group now employs in excess of forty (40) people with a continued annual turnover/profit growth of 90%. RIT-AIRĀ® has provided me with a methodical, clearly defined process and has allowed me to focus on implementing our Strategic Business Plan. All new employees go through a thorough induction process, providing them with documentation and a clear understanding of their employment conditions and, in turn, our expectations. I find that because of the knowledge and understanding obtained during the induction process, and with clear communication channels, employees are able to be more effective and productive more quickly, which benefits us both. Rapid growth often brings tension and stress amongst team members. However, the appraisal process and the communication techniques have hugely assisted in bringing issues to resolution. The processes are easy to use and implement, and now each Area Manager is trained in our RIT-AIRĀ® procedures. I fully endorse this book and the helpful processes that it provides. See Inside!
